| Oslo Vokalensemble is
an independent mixed chamber choir. We aim at a
high musical level and sing all types of music.
At present the choir consists of 35 active singers from
25 to well over 50 years, most of them between 25-45. In 2004 we
participated in an international choir festival in Italy
returning with two silver awards. The year before we visited Österlen in
Sweden where we were invited to sing in St.
Olof's church. Our annual and traditional
Christmas concert takes place in Gamle Aker kirke
in December. Our demo-CD Canciones presents Spanish related
music.
The choir was founded in 1990 and has been
active since. Some of the works performed the last years:
Bruckner's motets, Duruflé's Requiem, Poulenc's O magnum
mysterium, Nordheim's Converte nos, Britten's A
ceremony of carols and
other sacred
music.
In addition to sacred music, we aim at a
varied repertoire: light music
, folk
tunes , madrigals, Bellman , and
obviously, Christmas
music . The annual Christmas concert in Gamle
Aker kirke, the oldest in Oslo, is one of our
most cherished performances. Included in our
repertoire is furthermore Rautavaara's
"Suite" de Lorca, Halffter's Tres
Epitafios, Beatles tunes and scores from The Real
Group and Manhattan Transfer. In October
2001 we participated in a choir festival in the
Netherlands where we earned a place in the 1.
prize class.
Oslo Vokalensemble won 1. prize in class A in
The Midnight Sun International Choir Festival in
Tromsø in 1994, and we represented Norway in the
International choir festival in Cork, Ireland, in
1997. In 1999 we cooperated with a contemporary
Norwegian composer, Knut Vaage, who wrote four
pieces for us. In addition to regular concerts,
we have performed at a variety of festive
occasions. Members are listed here.
